Monday 03 November,2008 - Starboard have been recommended for prestigeous IIP Award

Starboard hotels have been recommended for accreditation with the prestigious IIP award. The Investors in People Standard is a business improvement tool designed to advance an organisation's performance through its people.

Developed in 1990 by a partnership of leading businesses and national organisations, the Standard helps organisations to improve performance and realise objectives through the management and development of their people. Since it was developed, the Standard has been reviewed every three years to ensure that it remains relevant, accessible and attractive to all. The most recent review was completed in November 2004.

Tuesday 04 September,2008 - Holiday Express Burnley is open now

The Holiday Inn Express Burnley is open now; the first Starboard Hotel has opened its doors to business and leisure customers.  The team have been busy working to put the finishing touches to the first hotel development for over nine years in Burnley offering state of the art, modern, contemporary facilities. 

Holiday Inn Express Burnley is only the fourth Holiday Inn Express with new hallmarks and brand standards.  With 102 bedrooms the Holiday Inn Express Burnley is the town's largest hotel in addition offering four high specification meeting rooms and four accessibility rooms.  Jane Walton, General Manager commented “The Holiday Inn Express Burnley has created great interest amongst local businesses who are all keen to try out the new facilities and commit to using the hotel”.

Tuesday 5 August,2008 - Days Inn Wetherby

Starboard Hotels have acquired a 126-bedroom hotel site at the new Motorway Service Area at Junction 46 of the A1 (M) near Wetherby, West Yorkshire and plan to develop the hotel under the Days Inn brand.

The hotel will form part of a new 35-acre motorway services area development (presently under construction) which is part of Moto Hospitality Ltd’s current programme of expansion.

Starboard Hotels plans to develop and operate a substantial and diverse portfolio of franchise hotels in the UK. It has also been granted planning permission for a 200-bedroom Holiday Inn Express in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Proposals have also been submitted for a 202-bedroom Holiday Inn Express in Gateshead.

Paul Callingham, Managing Director of Starboard Hotels, said: “We’ve chosen this site because of its prominent location on the A1 (M). It is also near the Wetherby racecourse and close to York and Harrogate.

“It is another exciting addition to the Starboard Hotels portfolio as we continue to move forward with our plans for high quality, excellent value hotels in carefully chosen locations across the UK.”

March 14 2008-Starboard Hotels and Priority Sites Gateshead scheme to set sail
West Yorkshire-headquartered regeneration specialist, Priority Sites has joined forces with hotels developer Starboard Hotels to deliver an ambitious £18 million development project in Gateshead. The companies announced their collaboration at the international real estate convention, MIPIM in Cannes this week

The proposed Gateshead site, on Hawks Road, is adjacent to the Sage Music Centre and Millennium Bridge, and currently houses old industrial units. Priority Sites plan to develop a high grade 40,000 sq. ft office park, while Starboard Hotels are working with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to secure a franchise agreement to operate a 70,000 sq. ft, 202 bedroom Holiday Inn Express hotel. Friday 07 March 2008 - Proposed Development in Edgbaston
Calthorpe Estates, the property development and investment company, has secured Holiday Inn Express Hotel for their new £100 million retail and leisure development, Edgbaston Mill, in Birmingham. The £14 million investment by Starboard Hotels brings a 200 bedroom Holiday Inn Express hotel to the 450,000 sq ft scheme, situated opposite Edgbaston Cricket Ground. The hotel will be owned and operated by Starboard Hotels under a franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group.

Managing Director, Paul Callingham said: “Edgbaston Mill is ideal for the Holiday Inn Express brand. It offers an unrivalled location near to some of Birmingham’s major attractions and will boast many quality restaurants and leisure facilities that complement the high quality facilities our hotel will be offering. “It is also easily accessible, being close to some of the main arterial routes in Birmingham, and offers an abundance of car parking spaces for customers. Monday 18 February 2008 - Proposed Development in Gateshead
Starboard Hotels are proud to announce the proposed development of a substantial Hotel in Gateshead. Starboard Hotels have secured a site in the heart of Gateshead to develop and operate under a franchise agreement a 202 bedroom Holiday Inn Express, subject to Planning Permission being granted. The site, on Hawks Road, is ideally located adjacent to the Sage Centre and Millennium Bridge in the heart of vibrant Gateshead. Starboard Hotels are working with Priority Sites Limited to secure the planning consent for this mixed office and hotel scheme.

“The Gateshead site is a fantastic addition to Starboard Hotels’ portfolio” comments Paul Callingham, Starboard’s Managing Director. “We have invested a lot of time into finding the ideal solution for this key site and are delighted to be collaborating with Priority Sites Limited to deliver this quality development.”

Should the application prove successful, Starboard are aiming to start construction of this hotel in the last quarter of ’08 with the hotel opening scheduled for early 2010.

 

September 2007 – Holiday Inn Express, Burnley starts on site. 
Starboard Hotels are pleased to announce that the 102 bedroom Holiday Inn Express in Burnley has started on site.  Contractors, ISG Totty, have a 9 month development programme and are scheduled to complete the hotel at the end of June 2008.  Philip Houghton, Operations Director at Starboard Hotels, commented “this is an exciting phase in the evolution of our company.  Over the coming months the operational team will slot into place and we will be proud to bring such a high quality product to the local community.”

May 2007 - IHG sign Franchise agreement. 
Starboard Hotels are pleased to announce that InterContinental Hotels Group (ISG) have approved the application from Starboard Hotels to develop and operate, under a franchise agreement, a 102 bedroom Holiday Inn Express in Burnley.  The hotel will benefit from an enhanced meeting room offering, with 4 purpose built air conditioned meeting rooms.  The hotel is scheduled to start construction in the autumn of ’07 and open summer ’08.

March 2007 - Starboard Hotels launch at MIPIM. 
Starboard Hotels leadership team of Paul Callingham, Stephen Carter and Philip Houghton were all in attendance at MIPIM in Cannes this week.  The team, based on the motor launch Sans Souci in Cannes Harbour, were entertaining a range of senior representatives from local authorities, national developers, agents and other professional service providers.  The team were outlining their business objectives and putting the Starboard Hotels name firmly in the hotel development and franchising arena.

February 2007 - Burnley Acquisition.
Starboard Hotels secure their first hotel site through the acquisition of a strategic site with planning permission for a hotel and a pub restaurant.  Starboard Hotels will be seeking to enhance the hotel planning permission in order to deliver a highly specified Holiday Inn Express hotel.  On confirming the transaction Paul Callingham, Starboard Hotel’s Managing Director, commented “this strategic site, visible from the M65 and just 1 minute from junction 10 at Burnley, will offer a great alternative to commercial and leisure customers seeking a high quality, good value hotel in the area.”
